A shocking case from Lucknow has triggered outrage after a doctor was arrested for allegedly raping a woman patient inside an operation theatre while she was undergoing treatment at Tejas Hospital in the city’s Bakshi Ka Talab area. The incident, which allegedly occurred during the patient’s admission at the private hospital, has once again raised serious concerns about patient safety and accountability within medical institutions.
Police officials said the accused was taken into custody after the victim’s side approached Bakshi Ka Talab Police Station with a complaint detailing the alleged sexual assault during treatment inside the hospital premises.

According to police, information regarding the incident was received on May 21. Following the complaint, officers immediately reached Tejas Hospital located in the Indaurabag area and began an investigation.

Based on the written complaint submitted by the victim’s family, police registered Case No. 189/2026 under Section 64(2)(e) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with Section 3(2)(5) of the SC/ST Act.
The accused was identified as Vijay Kumar Giri, a resident of Rajnapur village under Tambaur Police Station in Sitapur district, who was currently residing at Tejas Hospital in Lucknow.
The woman had been admitted to the hospital on May 19 for medical treatment. During interrogation, the accused allegedly disclosed that the sexual assault took place on May 21 while the patient was undergoing treatment.
According to police officials, the accused allegedly admitted during questioning that he raped the woman inside the hospital’s operating theatre.
Officials said evidence linked to the case was collected during the investigation, including the clothes allegedly worn by the accused at the time of the incident.
Police confirmed that Vijay Kumar Giri was formally arrested after a preliminary investigation and evidence collection. After completion of legal procedures, he was produced before the court and later remanded to judicial custody.
Officials further stated that during interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime and sought forgiveness for his actions.
Further investigation into the case remains underway.
